Happy February from the Cubby’s Music Team!
We kicked the New Year off right here at Cubby’s Music by recording a wedding package with our friends at The License Lab. The package includes ten various original compositions, six with a string quartet and four with a brass quintet. In addition, we also recorded two renditions of Mendelssohn’s Wedding March and Wagner’s Bridal Chorus, one for a string quartet and one for a brass quintet. We’ll let you know when it’s up and ready for listening on the website.
Speaking of The License Lab, Jim will be partnering up with the national Clawhammer Banjo Champion, Tyler Andal, in composing the next package of Appalachian music.
Jim’s arrangement of “Why Do We Sing?” was featured at the Martin Luther King Day concert with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra on Sunday, January 19th.
On the 14th and 15th of this month, Jim will be playing piano with the Chattanooga Symphony Big Band in a Valentine’s Day weekend filled with some great music led by conductor, Bob Bernhardt, and featuring vocalist, Valerie Duke. On March 1st, Jim will play along side the symphony once more when they perform the score from the film, “Singing in the Rain,” while the movie is featured behind them.
Jim is once again collaborating with producer Bernie Herms. Throughout this month, Jim will be co-orchestrating Bernie’s string arrangements for the Christian rock band RED, Norah Jones, and a duet with Barbara Streisand and Andrea Bocelli. Jim is always honored when asked to co-orchestrate with Bernie.
Currently, we are working on eight orchestrations that will be premiered this April by the indie rock band I’m Not A Pilot and the Milwaukee Youth Symphony. The concert will take place at the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center and will be a terrific opportunity to see a local Milwaukee band playing along side of a full symphony.
Later this spring Jim will be collaborating once more with Amy Grant in the Nashville Symphony Orchestra’s side-by-side concert with the Curb Youth Symphony. Also on May 14th, 15th, and 16th, Branford Marsalis will be playing Jim’s arrangement of Branford’s composition, The Bard Lachrymose, with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra.
It’s going to be a fantastic February and an even better spring! We look forward to keeping you posted and updated through it all.
Have a great February Everyone!
